QAM Tuners
All QAM tuners are not created
equal; I cannot find any examples to show you of QAM tuners for
inside your TV; however, there is a growing market for QAM
tuners you can plug into your computer or laptop to receive
Clear QAM digital channels, so I'll show you what some models
look like. There are many makers but the most well-known is
Hauppage; here are some prime products from Hauppage Computer
Works, in the US, who make QAM tuners in combo with other
receivers, so you can pick up just about any digital cable TV
shows on your computer:
The Hauppage
'WinTV-HVR-950Q'
Hauppage recently introduced
these nifty QAM tuners for when you want to access Clear QAM
channels on your computer or laptop. They are USB drive-sized
and that is what they look like, with a cable connection on one
end and a USB plug on the other. The package includes a
wafer-thin remote control and a portable antenna. Features are
many, and include the ability to receive and tune Clear QAM
digital cable TV, NTSC analog cable and Over The Air (OTA) TV,
and ATSC digital OTA HDTV. Pretty much anything you'll need,
anywhere, to ramp some digital cable TV channels through your
computer and laptop, where you can watch and record your fave
shows.

Also by Hauppage and for use
with computers and laptops, below is a QAM tuner box that
offers all the features of the above device and more; the extra
items include audio/video inputs for recording from set top
boxes, VCRs and camcorders, and I especially like the IR
Blaster; that stands for InfraRed Blaster, a device that acts
as nexus between a recording device such as a DVR or VCR and a
tuner; it allows the device to send signals to the tuner, such
as asking the tuner to change channels to a pre-set channel at
a pre-set time for recording.

Yet again by the masterful
Hauppage, the WinTV-HVR-1850 board which, in a
nutshell, serves the same purpose as the above units, but
is a PCI board ready for snapping into your computer,
internally, and meant to be used with Windows Vista.
